Tscherne overtakes the competition in academics, support

Tuesday, December 30 fall sports teams gave awards to their best athletes.

Cross Country head coach Brant Evans awarded junior Emilia Tscherne the pillar award and the academic award.

“It was very difficult,” Evans said. “We spoke with the coaching staff and threw out names that we felt could be, because there were a lot of kids who were very deserving of the awards.”

Evans clearly loves and enjoys the sport as he told us he has a lot of fun running and training these kids.

“I love them, it’s a lot of fun every day to hang out with the cross country athletes.”

Tscherne, an international student from Austria was surprised when she found out she was the winner as she had never been a really athletic person.

“I’m a very determined person. I really want to do my best in every single thing. So I also tried my best in cross country,” Tscherne said.

Tscherne has a really clear vision on the keys to success.

“The improvement came along with showing up to training every single day and being determined to run,” Tscherne said. “And my mentality because I always told myself, you can do this.”
