Monday night, December 8, the Morris Chapel held many of our students from choir, Darlingtones, Random Notes and band to perform their pieces of work in hopes of bringing everyone together for the Christmas spirit. With the wide range of groups performing, each brought their own style and songs to the chapel.
“We have prepared for this concert for the last couple months,” Freshman Evy Molnar said. “First, we did them on Soulfege, which is learning to sing the different vocal notes. Then we practiced that in our sections, I am a soprano, which means I sing more melody and the high notes. After that we learned the lyrics and combined all of the choir together. We have worked really hard and I am excited for tonight.”
With each groups preparing for many months, they have put together a variety and list of different Christmas songs to sing and perform. From songs like pop hits to classic carols each group has a different strength and passion to bring to the performance.
“We’ll be performing Mary did you know?, Underneath the Tree, and also the one we do every year, which is Grown Up Christmas List,” Junior Sara Jo Pierce said. “I’m a part of Darlingtones so we are the fun side of kind of choir. Choir usually does all of the professional songs while, we handle most of the pop songs that you hear in the radio or any type of song that you would hear normally. Darlingtones is also an only girls group and Random Notes is the boys group.”
Even with all of the chorus and choir groups performing vocal pieces, the band also performed and have been preparing since the beginning of the school year and ran through each song multiple times. They prepared three pieces of work for this event as well.
“I have played the trombone for a few years now, since middle school. My favorite piece out of the three we performed which were, A Christmas Carol, Silver Bells, and All Blanks On was the first one, I feel like it brought the most Christmas spirit and was most engaging to everyone,” freshman Charlie Cowan said.
Moreover the event was meant to bring together the community and spread the Christmas spirit through the songs and pieces of work each group spent many months preparing and practicing for.
“The event had many Christmas songs that everyone knows and love, there was also a lot of Christmas feelings in these pieces, it was really nice to perform and it gives us a time of reflection. I feel like it brings the Christmas spirits high,” Cowan said.
