November 1st was the annual Haunted House, but it was different from last year. Last year, it was a ‘Haunted Trail’ around Coyote Trail with the leaders chasing and scaring everyone who was walking through it, but this year it was in the Old gym, and all the houses and their leaders planned it. There were three parts to the house, each built and themed by the six houses, brother and sister houses paired up. I went through the haunted house and I think it was pretty scary it was executed very well, I think the first part was good because it was clowns and jump scarce, the second part was the best because you had to like go through obstacles while being scared, and the third one was also kind of funny because you could see your friends because there face was painted but they also would like grab you to scare you.
“So for the Haunted House, it’s going to be pretty hype, there is going to be three themes, one for Moser and Regester, one for Summerbell and Cooper and one for Neville and Thornwood,” senior Murray Ellington said. “Our theme is a hospital, there’s going to be some chainsaws involved in our section, and an operating room and there’ll be other cool stuff; it’s just gonna be pretty trippy. We have some flashing lights and lots of colors going on and some body parts hanging around.”
The Haunted House was set up in the Old Gym, a big open space where each house set up their station and were able to plan where the student walk through and how they could hide, unlike last year, where everyone could see them because it was an open trail.
“I am the Head Prefect of Summerbell, so I have been a part of the planning for the Haunted House,” senior Ryan Murego said. “We are at the start of the Haunted House, so we’re going to be doing jump scares and then we are gonna lead the way for the middle group, which is Moser and Regester. It’s super different from last year because this year it’s inside the Old Gym instead of outside on a trail, so it is going to be scarier because it’s closer in person. All the leaders are going to be the ones dressed up and scaring everyone. The total experience should last around nine minutes.”
The Haunted House sections were executed very well. In some of the sections, there were obstacles, chainsaws, and people dressed up. All of this really added to the scare factor and the experience to the students going though.
“Our section is the middle section, so after you go through the first section, it will be ours,” said Ellington. “The prefects are kind of in charge; they are leading their section, but all the leaders are involved in scaring and getting everything set up and taken down, too. Well, last year was a Haunted Trail, so it’s completely different, because last year it was pretty open and I would say this is going to be a better fit for what we are going for, it’s going to be more scary, because in the Haunted Trail you could really see people whenever they were going to scare you, but for this it’s gonna be dark and no one’s going to know what hit them.”
Along with setting up for the Haunted House the leaders were very proud of their work and all had hoped it was executed better and everyone I talked to thought it was scary and the leaders put their best effort into it.
“It was good and pretty scary, they did a good job with the costumes and everything, my favorite section was Moser, Regester, and Thornwood because they were the scariest,” freshman Madeline Baggett said.
