As Homecoming week approaches, excitement builds around spirit week themes designed to unite students in celebration of our school pride and tradition. These themed days encourage everyone to express creativity and enthusiasm while strengthening our community bonds. Embracing each day’s unique theme helps make homecoming week a memorable and meaningful experience for all members of our school.
“One of my favorite themes is Pajama Day, but also the one that we’re doing today, which is duos. I think it is really fun. I’m dressed up as Van Gogh, and my friend is Starry Night,” sophomore Alex Childers said.
This week, there were four spirit themes selected to get everyone excited about homecoming. A week ago, a form was sent out to all of the student body so that the student body, as a group, could choose the themes that were most interesting and fun for us.
“I feel like this year was more exciting for everyone because we students were able to choose what we wanted the themes to be, and it makes us feel like we had a choice. I also think that since we could choose, it is something we look forward to dressing up as and will participate in,” freshman Kate Willerson.
As everyone was able to pick their favorite themes, many have planned far ahead and thought strategically and very carefully about their costumes, especially for the inseparable pairs day. Although some made last-minute, makeshift costumes from home with everyday clothes from their closets. Many choose a theme from a favorite childhood TV show or some iconic characters that what meaningful to them.
“We had been planning to do our costumes for almost 2 weeks, and we were brainstorming different ideas and movies we liked. We finally came up with Ratatouille, I was the rat, Ratatouille, and my friend was the chef. We thought this was a good idea because it was something unique that no one else would think of,” freshman Jude Watts said.
Many thought of themes from movies and planned far in advance, while others were also very creative and chose something out of their closets last minute. While others on Monday rocked their cozy pajamas right out of bed at school.
“I really enjoyed pajama day because I was very comfortable even though I was at school, and I pretty much just woke up out of bed and came. It was very nice. Last night I chose to be Halloween, and my friend was Christmas, so today I wore all orange to show my Halloween spirit,” sophomore Al Terran said.
