The swim team honored its three seniors on Thursday, December 11 with a home meet that marked their last time swimming at home in the pool. The ceremony recognized the seniors’ years of participation in the program and their contributions to the team’s performance and leadership. Each swimmer was acknowledged before the meet, accompanied by family members or faculty, as coaches and teammates reflected on their time with the program. The seniors have balanced demanding practice schedules with academic responsibilities while representing the school in meets throughout the year. Senior Night served as both a recognition of their commitment and a milestone in the season, as the team now turns its attention to the end of the regular season and postseason competition. For the seniors, the meet represented the final opportunity to compete at home, closing an important chapter in their high school athletic careers.
“It was a good meet. I did well, but it hit deep knowing that was my last home swim,” senior Sammy Lewis said. “Getting out of the pool after my final race, it really hit me that I’ll never be leaving the pool like that as a competitor again.”
Lewis said the emotions of the night were balanced by confidence in the team’s future.
“I know I’m leaving the swim team in good hands,” Lewis said. “It felt like I was passing on the torch.”
For underclassmen, Senior Night underscored the close-knit and connected nature of the program.
“Everyone is really connected, and senior night is always a sad night for us,” sophomore Ivey Dunn said. “We know they won’t be here next season, and we’re really going to miss them.”
Lewis said he hopes to be remembered for his reliability and relationships.
“I want to be seen as someone reliable and a good friend,” he said. “Someone they could still call if they ever needed anything.”
Dunn said the season has been challenging but productive as the team faces a mix of strong and developing opponents.
“We’re midway through the season, and I feel like it’s going pretty good,” Dunn said. “We’ve played some hard teams and some easier teams, and I feel good about where we are.”
As the season continues, individual goals and state qualifying remain in focus for swimmers.
“I’m about half a second away from qualifying for state,” Dunn said. “That sounds small, but in swimming it’s a lot.”
