The Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide will meet once again this Saturday, December 6 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta for a chance to claim the title of the SEC champion of 2025. This will be the third time the two teams have met in the same spot since 2020, and every time Alabama secured the win. The Bulldogs are ranked third, this secures them a first-round bye in the upcoming playoff. This season the team has a record of 11-1, and their only loss was against Alabama.

Kalen DeBoer, Alabama’s coach, has led his team to a regular-season record of 10-2. Despite the fact that they have lost two games, they haven’t allowed a single team to score more than twenty-four points in a game, and they have also held seven of their 12 opponents to a twenty point threshold.

The Bulldogs benefited from Texas A&M’s loss against Texas on November 28, which then knocked the Aggies out of the SEC Championship game contention thanks to the conference tiebreakers. All the more, the Crimson Tide secured their win against Auburn 27-20 this past November 27. The win benefited the Alabama, giving them the chance to compete with the Bulldogs once more for the SEC title, with a win potentially leading to an automatic bid into the expanded College Football Playoffs.

Kirby Smart and his team have faced some adversity, such as their 24-21 loss to Alabama this season, prior to its narrow victory against Georgia Tech in its regular season finale. Georgia also beat three straight opponents by at least twenty points, including No. 16 University of Texas.

In the weeks after the Florida State loss, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson looked like a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender. He tossed 21 touchdowns to just one interception in his first nine starts while helping the Crimson Tide to an 8-1 record. DeBoer has a deep cache of weapons to spread the ball to, highlighted by wide receivers Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard. In past seasons, DeBoer’s teams have excelled heavily in offense, but this year the defense is the real story, with their top three tacklers, linebackers Justin Jefferson and Deontae Lawson, along with defensive back Bray Hubbard.

Georgia also boasts one of the nation’s best groups of linebackers with studs like Chris Cole and CJ Allen patrolling the middle of the field, and redshirt freshman Ellis Robinson IV has emerged as a much needed lockdown cornerback. While on offense, shaky at times, but a well-experienced group of tide ends and a strong running game supported by a physical offensive line. Key players like quarterback Gunner Stockton, tight ends Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie, receiver Zachariah Branch, and running back Trevor Etienne have been noted for their contributions to these strengths.

When it comes to the strong rivalry of Alabama and Georgia contending to take home a title, it becomes a mental game. Georgia has a better regular season record, although one is lost to Alabama, while also losing all meetings in the SEC championship against the Crimson Tide as well. Both teams have had adversity and hardships, while they also have different advantages to bring to the game. Whoever claims the 2025 SEC championship in Atlanta will come down to who brings their best and a strong mental mentality.
