Sun, Sand and Sticks: Girls’ Lacrosse Team’s Florida Adventure

Sun, Sand and Sticks: Girls Lacrosse Teams Florida Adventure

The Girls Lacrosse Team went on a trip to Daytona Beach from April 4 to April 7.

“I think the trip was for some team bonding and then also obviously to play a game against a team that is a little bit out of our area,” Dean of Residential Life Kerri Nagle said. “It is always good for teams to do things off campus to get to know each other better.”

The team had two games on Friday. Besides that, the time was used for different team activities.

“I think the trip made many people get closer who maybe were not close before. People got to talk to a lot of new people because we had time to just hang out with each other,” senior Mary Blair Fuller said. “It was nice to relax with them and not have the tension of being in practice. When playing lacrosse, some people tend to be more focused on the game.”

Even though the team lost their games, the students took away many positive things.

“We strengthened our connections and our team bond,” senior Elika Mohammadi said. Trips like this can help students on the team get closer to each other, which can also lead to better understanding of each other and communication during games.”

In addition to Head Coach Mallory Collier and Assistant Coach Breonna Blankenship, five other faculty members who supported the team as chaperones were part of the trip.

“It was really well planned, which makes it a lot easier for chaperones who are just kind of there to help and support,” Nagle said. It was also kind of cool having the 8th graders be able to go and start to build those relationships with high school students.”

The last full day was spent at the Universal Studios in Orlando.

“Taking the student pieces aside, it was cool to hang out with some of the faculty I do not get to always work with and get to know them better,” Nagle said. “To see their interactions with the students is always good.”
