Fall Sports Season Recap

The good, the bad, and the straight out amazing: a recap of our 2016 fall sports season.

Sophomore Emily Brandon, a first year varsity cheerleader, notes the first home football game as her favorite game of the season.

“It was my favorite because I got to experience being under the Friday night lights for the first time and the there was a big crowd with a bunch of bleacher creatures,” Brandon said.

Senior Evan Gober believes the boys crew team had a great season.

“I think that we did really well considering half our team is rowing for the first time,” said Gober, “My favorite part of crew is just being out there on the water, with nature, in tune with everything.”

Sophmore Marissa Joseph, the coxswain for the girls’ crew team, has also made memories throughout the fall season.

“I think we had a pretty rough season due to the drought, which made it really hard to get out on the water, but I think we did a good job of making the best of it,” said Joseph, “Crew really teaches you how to be consistent, determined and disciplined.”

Both the boys and girls cross country teams went to state this season.

“The team and I both did great, we both went to state. The team got 5th overall and I personally got 25th in the state with a time of 18 Minutes and 26 seconds,” said sophomore Lawson Blake, “My favorite part of cross country is the people and being able to hang out with all of my friends.”

The varsity football team made it to the second round of the playoffs.

“We doing great, we’ve beaten a lot of tough teams during the season and that has really prepared us for the playoffs,” said senior Ethan Delashmit,  “My favorite game to play in was the first round game against walker because it was my first playoff game I got to play in.”

Under many Friday night lights, along with football players, sits the stadium band.

“My favorite part of stadium band is doing what I love with my friends,” said senior Zane Anderson, “My favorite song to play is ‘Espania’.”

Softball also made it to the second round of the state playoffs, in the same manner as football, but ended with a loss against Tattnall Square Academy.

“My favorite game was the second game against Excel, that was the best we have ever played as a team,” said sophomore Sydney Seymour.

Volleyball fought hard all fall season along and lost in the first round of state to Mount de Sales, a catholic school in Macon, Georgia.

“I was super excited with the season. We played really hard all season and had some really close games, it was a good season overall,” said sophomore Annabelle Braden.
