RUMPUS Relay kept the momentum rolling after RUMPUS Gameday kicked off the competition. The houses competed at 3:30 p.m. in Chris Hunter Stadium, with the whole competition taking just over half an hour.
All six houses participated, with Neville coming out on top, scoring six points, followed quickly by Summerbell, scoring five points, Cooper with four, Thornwood coming up with three, Regester holding out with two and Moser gaining one point.
Each house chose participants who completed different tasks. A make-or-break station was the hula hoop obstacle course, which allowed Summerbell to soar forward while holding Cooper’s reins back. Some stations, like the ChapStick stack, were heavily affected by the windy conditions, making the time at that station high-pressure and tedious. Other stations were mere stops along the way, with houses flying through the lock-code combinations and the Wiffle ball balancing act.
Junior Chapa Galvan, a member of Regester House, worked with junior Vivian Kearns to complete a puzzle as a task.
“I am honestly pretty nervous because it is a lot about being accurate with the pieces you are placing, and you have a lot of pressure on you with all of the Reg girls trying to move onto the next challenge,” junior Roberta Chapa Galvan said.
On the first day of RUMPUS, the weather was around 40 degrees with winds making some of the relay events difficult to complete.
“I did the cotton-ball scoop and rock, paper, scissors,” Cross said. “For the cotton-ball scoop, I was really stressed because the cotton balls kept flying away since it is super windy, but having everyone there cheering me on and blocking the wind made it a lot better.”
