The senior class took a much-needed break from the pressures of college applications, essays, and final-year responsibilities during Senior Stress Relief Day, an event designed to help students unwind and recharge. Hosted in the school library, the day offered a relaxed atmosphere filled with laughter, snacks, fidget toys, and even a visit from therapy puppies, designed to give seniors a well deserved break from their busy routines. For a lot of alumni, senior year was one of the most stressful periods of their high school experience. Between the looming deadlines for college applications, challenging coursework, and the emotional weight of preparing for life after graduation, it’s easy for students to feel overwhelmed. Events like Senior Stress Relief Day remind them that taking time for themselves isn’t just allowed, it’s necessary. Senior Megan Pinkley described just how difficult managing stress has been this year.
“It’s been terrible,” Pinkley said with a laugh. “Worse than junior year, even though I’m taking less of a course load, because college sucks.”
Pinkley said the event had been something she’d looked forward to for weeks.
“It’s been great because I’ve been looking forward to it, so it’s been kind of like a light at the end of the tunnel,” she explained. “But also, getting here is such a different vibe than you’d expect. It’s just super fun because you get to play with the puppies, have fidget toys, and just relax and hang out with your classmates.”
The library, usually a place of quiet study, was transformed into a lively space. The tables were stocked with snacks, sweets, fidget cubes and stress balls, and in the back room, students had the opportunity to play with puppies.
Laughter and conversation filled the air, as students momentarily forgot about essays and deadlines and instead focused on simply being together.
Senior Sammy Lewis agreed that the event offered a welcome escape.
“Pretty stressful,” Lewis admitted when asked about senior year. “Balancing schoolwork, athletics, on top of college acceptances and essays, yeah, it’s been pretty hard.”
Lewis also commented on how helpful this short time was for the stress that senior year has given him so far.
“For a short amount of time, I don’t have to worry about any of those things.” Lewis said, “I get to eat sweets, play with toys, and have fun with puppies, so I just don’t have to care about that stuff for my time.”
The event was not only a success in helping students relax but also served as a reminder of the importance of community and self-care. As seniors prepare for the next stage of their lives, taking moments like these to breathe, laugh, and connect with friends can make all the difference.
Whether they came for the puppies, the snacks, or just the chance to take a break, one thing was clear: Senior Stress Relief Day offered more than just fun, it offered relief, gratitude, and a sense of togetherness in a year often defined by pressure.
Librarian Jordan West summed it up perfectly, when saying, “Sometimes, you just need a puppy break.”
