There has recently been a resurgence in what some consider the most popular video game of all time: Fortnite Battle Royale. On November 1, Fortnite announced its collaboration with the long-running television show “The Simpsons”. As a result of this partnership, Simpsons characters have been introduced as skins in the Battle Pass, and new places of interest (POI) have been added to the map like Springfield Slurpworks and Cletus’ Corn Hole. These additions have drawn many Simpson lovers back to the game as well as old Fortnite enthusiasts, and increased its popularity amid what most considered the downfall of Fortnite. Freshman Barrett Woods shares what memories he recalls fondly by revisiting the game during this season.
“I’m a Big Simpsons fan, personally. Just seeing all of the show’s towns being placed in Fortnite Battle Royale is pretty cool.” Woods said. “It reminds me of back in the day when I used to eat cookie dough while watching the Simpsons with my dad”…”In terms of Fortnite, going back to season six, Henry Patel and I would play Fortnite all the time, and Matias would also grinding with me. It was really fun stuff.”
According to freshman Kennedy Roberts, the game is fun because of the new POIs and guns that change the gameplay dynamic. They offer a variety of possibilities to participate in and experience and provide a “refresh” to the game. Users like the new guns specifically because they allow them to create new tactics and strategies to win.
“I liked, like, all the new textures and stuff because it makes the game more vibrant and colorful,” Roberts said. “I also love the new guns like the deodorant applicator and five-gun, those are my favorites so far. Another thing I really like about the Simpsons collaboration is the bosses that spawn in random places around the map. They are difficult to beat and give you a challenge in the middle of the game.”
Sophomore Levi Duggan shared that he was impressed with the game makers who introduced a new element to a classic game that many young students found so familiar.
“I think the people over there, Epic Games headquarters, keep working every day and trying to find something new to really put the world on stand, and they never fail to make everything so fun to play by yourself or with friends,” Duggan said.
