On April 10, a picnic-themed lunch was held on the Darlington High School campus to celebrate 100 years of boarding.

“It was good, the food was pretty good and I really enjoyed it. My friend and I had a really good time,” senior Alexa San said. “This activity is really important because it brings us together and makes friends.”

Some students believed that improvement could be brought to the event.

“I think the food was really good, I liked it a lot,” senior Grace Armstrong said. “The purpose was to celebrate 100 years of boarding; I think it’s necessary to bring everyone together. I think finding more seating on the patio would be helpful.”

The teachers prepared this event and collected opinions on the menu from the students.

“We had the picnic lunch on Wednesday as part of our 100 years of boarding celebration,” Dean of Residential Life Kerri Nagle said. “A few months ago, Mrs. Bruce and I sat down with the house leaders and asked them how they wanted to help celebrate our 100 years of having boarding students. They gave some great ideas, and one of them was a student-picked menu for a picnic lunch! Our boarding students are a huge part of what makes our community amazing, and it is important to celebrate this 100-year anniversary!”
