Darlington Hosts Winter Semi-Formal

On Feb. 9, Darlington’s Student Activities Committee organized a big dance that was open to all students at Darlington.

“I think we have had this dance on or around the same weekend for the last three years,” head of Summerbell Randy Smith said.

This dance is one of many events at Darlington, and each year the ball has a different theme that adds to the boring weekend for the students.

“The purpose of the formal is to give students an opportunity to socialize and have fun, both during the day and in the dorms,”  Smith said.

“I think the purpose of the dance is to bring all the grades together, day and night,” senior Maya Pandya said. “The dance every year brings the day and dorm students together and is a great way to have fun.”

The annual dance brings the day and residential students together, gives them a chance to socialize and gives classmates a chance to make happy memories and friends.

“The formal was super fun! I didn’t get to eat any of the food, but I know a lot of people did and it was free, so that was nice,” Pandya said. “I dislocated my kneecap for the second time during the dance, which felt horrible at the time, but in retrospect, it’s kind of funny, which means I had a great time!”

Some students had a few suggestions on how to make the formal even better in the future.

“I think the main problem with the dance was that we decided on it and announced it a little late, so for the future, I would definitely say to have a set date,” Pandya said, “that way people can dress up and get dates if they want to.”
