“Submit a Recipe” is a new monthly competition at Darlington where students get to submit recipes in hopes they will be chosen to be served in the cafeteria.
It was started by a senior Emma Chen this school year. According to her, she got the idea for it after touring UGA for college.
“They had a similar recipe program where students’ parents could give recipes and the dining service would make a select few,” said Chen. “So, I pitched the idea to the dining hall during my senior ventures project.”
Emma Chen works with the two head Flik Dining staff, Logan and Cherie, with extra help from Ms. Kinney.
“We discuss if the recipe can be reasonably made in the dining hall,” Chen said, “and what dates they can incorporate the meal into.”
So far, the students like it and more people are getting involved over time.
“I don’t think it’s made much of an impact yet,” Chen said. “Although, I think people do enjoy the submitted recipe meals more than the usual food.”
Students have truly enjoyed the student-chosen meals in the Cafeteria.
“I liked the food that they picked and I think it tasted good,” said senior Ivan Horvat. “I look forward to seeing what the next one is.”
