Many of us take the Earth and its natural resources for granted, so sometimes we need a reminder to take care of our home; Enter, the green team.
The Green Team is a club that is aimed at helping the environment and promoting recycling.
“The Green Team club believes that by working together they can create a greener and more sustainable future for our community and beyond,” said Mrs. Kinney, Leader of Green Team.
The Green Team’s main focus in working within the Darlington community.
“During green team [we] go all around collecting the blue recycling bins,” senior and president of the club Elika Lamtar Mohammadi said. “Sometimes we set up a clean up after football games.”
Green Team’s big goal is to establish a sustainable recycling program in Darlington. “The Green Team has been working to make sure recyclables are collected at large events on campus,” said Mrs. Kinney, “they collected items at a home football game, at the Homecoming Dance, and at events at The Home on the Hill.”
An obstacle preventing them from achieving their goal is the frequency of people putting trash in the recycling bins.
“There are plenty of trash cans on campus, and they have asked several times for people to please place trash in trash cans and recyclables in recycling bins,” said Mrs. Kinney, ”This seems like an easy concept, but some people do not seem to care about our cause or the planet.”
