Every week before RUMPUS the houses spend weeks curating a t-shirt design tailored to fit their theme. Moser’s “Gold Rush” themed t-shirt received good comments from students, while Cooper House members expressed their dislike of the shirt, from the design to the fabric material. However, the majority of houses confidently believe they have the best t-shirt design.
“This year’s shirt was my personal favorite in all my years in Neville,” Neville House senior Felipe Selle said. “I’m not the biggest fan of the Neville Road Trip, but the shirts and banner included made a difference. My favorite house design was Moser’s gold rush design because I think it best portrayed their theme. They came in pretty late and cut close to three days before RUMPUS, but I would say it was worth the wait. There is nothing I would change or add to the shirts.”
In contrast to Selle sharing his dislike for the Neville theme rather than the shirts, Summerbell gives an insight into old designs from a few years back, to the least appealing designs to them.
“I’m in Summerbell, and our design is focused on the Weather Channel, which is our theme,” junior in Summerbell Viet Nguyen said. “It’s honestly a super basic design with a big Weather symbol on the back, but I still think we have one of the best designs. My favorite house design t-shirt was back in my freshman year, when our theme was space. If I had to pick a least favorite, it would be Cooper House’s shirts because the fabric is sandpaper and the design lacks creativity.”
Nguyen noticed there was a harder material fabric for the Cooper shirts, but what most people didn’t catch was a huge mistake on the back of the shirt that leaders kept on the low.
“Our design this year was a slightly camo colored green shirt and on the front it had a traditional Darlington sign and “Cooper Troopers” on the bottom, which is our theme,” Cooper senior and leader Bryn Merritt said. “On the back is a picture of Uncle Sam posted up on brick wall with civilians looking at him. I think the camo is cool and super on theme, but there was a mistake with the back of the t-shirts. The back of the shirts was our banner and it was an error made while designing the t-shirts, but luckily nobody knew.”
While design errors were made in Cooper House, Thornwood residents were content with their designs and felt it fit the theme as best as it could. Furthermore Moser’s pot of gold design seemed to grab the attention of some this year.
“I actually really like what the Thornwood leaders did with our t-shirts this year, the material is super soft,” sophomore in Thornwood Mia Grioni said. “Although one thing I would change is the color which ours was navy blue, which confused me because why wouldn’t it be pink like our house color? The theme was Casino so there was little dice on our the shirt which I liked. I don’t really have a favorite design but If I had to pick it would be Moser because they stood out to me the most.”
