1. Moser House kicked things off with its Gold Rush theme, and the reveal was perfectly executed with the old-time outfits and western sound effects. There are many songs to choose from with the theme of country, but ‘gold rush’ take a new angle, so I’m not quite sure what sort of songs Moser House will pick up for that. Being first in the reveal, they came out strong in a performance in the chapel, making many students laugh and setting the tone for the rest of the reveals.
2. Moving from the West to a nearly opposite vibe, Thornwood Casino offers some solid concepts, even if their video lacked excitement. The video was filmed in their house, and had an array of funny gambling scenes, with phrases like ‘all in’, and cards and chips being tossed into the middle of a pile. Still, they’ll likely have some crowd-pleasing, high-energy songs in their lineup. Something that Thornwood House knows how to do well is take solid themes that are already good and twist them to surprise the audience and judges.
3. Shifting to Cooper House, their theme promises eye-catching costumes and plenty of fun music, though a few parts of the reveal video dragged. Cooper Troopers is a very clever name, and they have the pick of the litter when it comes to songs, because they can choose any songs that has to do with the USA. I originally thought that there will not be enough fast America songs, so I was a little doubtful, but I was reminded of their theme last year, Corporate Cooper, and how no one believed it would be strong but they came out with second place in Lip-Sync. The video consisted of the Cooper leaders being recruited to some kind of militia run by their head of house Rebecca Nolin, or Coach Becks, and it drew a few laughs from the audience, reminding Cooper members that they had to defend their title.
4. Keeping it in the family, Cooper’s brother house, Summerbell, delivered the most entertaining reveal video of them all, but their Weather Channel theme raises real questions about which songs they’ll find. In regular news anchor fashion, they compiled clipped of their reporters (leaders) interviewing students and random people alike about weather. After a couple minutes of awkward interviews, head prefect Hayes Parsa and head of house Randy Smith announces that Summerbell would be changing the weather to the student’s liking, announcing their theme. Only time will tell where their cloudy idea will go.
5. Taking a darker turn, Regester’s “A Nightmare on REG Street” stands out as the most original theme, and while their costume potential is huge, the music choices remain a mystery, though maybe that is a part of the appeal. I’m personally excited to see what they do with this theme and I believe costumes will blow the crowd away. Their reveal was the most frightful, showing us clips of the leaders playing with a Ouija board before it eventually made them all disappear. They reveal left many students shook and wondering what Regester had in store.
6. Finally, heading down the road to our last house, Neville’s Road Trip theme is certainly creative, but with a reveal that no one could hear and a thin plot, it leaves many curious about what they’ll come up with. The most common thought was that most of their songs will be based on destination, giving them such songs like California Girls, Empire State of Mind and Sweet Home Alabama. Just like Moser House their reveal was a sketch that took place in the chapel with senior Sammy Lewis driving down the chapel aisle in a toy car symbolizing their theme.
