Traffic: the movement of cars on a road or highway. I’m going to go out on a limb and say Rome has a lot of traffic. Everywhere you go, traffic. It makes it impossible to get across town in under twenty minutes, whether it’s Broad Street, Second Avenue, Turner McCall, Shorter Avenue, or the bypass, if you are driving on any of those roads, you will encounter traffic. So, I’m here to give you some alternate routes to avoid some of these traffic jams, if you are in a rush, or if you just don’t want to sit in traffic.
First, we’ll start with our folks on Horseleg Creek Road SW. An easy way to avoid the light at Atrium Health Floyd is to go south to Horseleg Creek Road, turn left onto Blacks Bluff Road SW, then turn left onto Cave Spring Road, and then you will arrive at Darlington.
Next, if you want to get to Moe’s, Dos Bros, Chick-fil-a, without traffic trouble during your free period, instead of turning onto Second Avenue, stay straight and turn left onto Fifth Avenue. Go through the light at Turner McCall, and turn left onto West Tenth Street. You will then stay straight until you get to the shopping center.
Now for the people in Armuchee, an easy solution to avoiding the Atrium Health Floyd light, Second Avenue traffic, and traffic by the mall, is to take the Connector. You can turn left onto the Connector from Highway Twenty-Seven. Go straight on to Riverside Parkway, and turn left onto Turner McCall, you will need to be in the right lane at the Ledbetter Interchange. Take the first exit, and turn left onto Cedar Avenue, then turn right onto Darlington Drive.
A big contributor to Rome’s traffic is the construction on Second Avenue. Several things are happening that make the roadways so inefficient. First, they are in the process of widening both sides of the road, and they completely shut down the cut through behind First Doctor’s Weight Loss. This is affecting the commute for many Romans in the morning and the afternoon. Because of this construction, Second Avenue is always backed up with cars, especially with Second Avenue going down to one lane at Barron Stadium. Not having the cut through causes a couple of issues. First, it backs up Turner McCall because people who usually turn at the cut through have to turn right at the light at Martha Berry.
With that being said, there are numerous ways to get from place to place in town, and there are so many backroads to help avoid major traffic jams. These are just a few ways to help get places faster and avoid bumper-to-bumper traffic.
