Spotify Wrapped is something that happens every year in early December, around 9-11 AM or 5-6 PM, and it tells you about the music you have listened to over the year. You learn your total minutes listened, top genres, listening age, your top songs, albums, and artists. All of these things you can see on the Spotify Wrapped overview.
I think that Spotify Wrapped is an interesting way to see over the year the different types of music you listen to. Most people I talked to about it had a higher listening age, like in the sixties range, which I thought was funny because most of them listen to rap or country, not what I imagine a 60-year-old to be tuning into. For top songs and albums, there are five spots, so on the overview, you see the five top songs you listened to over the year, as well as your top five artists you listened to over the year. It also tells you how many minutes you have listened to it, also transfers and converts it into how many days you have listened to music in total. If you are in the 0.005 or smaller percentage of listeners, that means you are one of the top listeners of someone, and receiving anything less than five is a big feat that many people like to show off.
Spotify Wrapped started in 2015 as “Year in Music,” and in 2016, it changed to the name Spotify Wrapped. Spotify Wrapped makes millions go to Spotify when it gets released to see what their overview is. The overview is supposed to be very colorful and vibrant so it gives off the modern vibes and the effect on social media is to make your Wrapped shareable and more likely to get posted on social media. This happened in 2019, and I think this was a marketing strategy to make Spotify more popular when posted on social media so people will start to use it. This became so popular and something millions look forward to because of the way it gets released on a certain day. It’s like the “Super Bowl” for music fans, the way it tells you so many different things, and the marketing strategy with the colors and the way it is formatted to makes you want want to share your wrapped with the world.
