Preparing for the PSAT

  1. Get everything ready the night before

Almost everyone wakes up wanting to hit the snooze button and go back to sleep, especially the day before a long test. By having your clothes, pencils, calculator, sweatshirt, or whatever you may think you need, you will save yourself the frantic running around at seven in the morning to find your favorite tshirt.

2. Get a good night’s sleep

I think this one is quite obvious. By getting a good amount of sleep, you won’t be exhausted and be able to concentrate on your test. I recommend at least eight hours!

3. Wake up with plenty of time to fully be awake

Don’t just wake up 10 minutes before you need, rolling out of bed and walking out the door half asleep. Give yourself time to actually wake up, maybe even splash some cold water on your face! You’ll feel 1,000 times better if you give yourself this time.

4. Eat a good breakfast

Don’t just grab your leftover, half eaten sandwich from yesterday’s lunch, actually eat a good breakfast that’ll keep you full longer. Fruit or yogurt are always small things if you’re not usually a breakfast eater, or you could make yourself some eggs; it’s whatever is your preference!

5. Bring a water and a snack

During the test, you will be given a break. You may get hungry or thirsty from sitting there for several hours, so bringing water and a small snack like a granola bar would always be a great just-in-case thing to have with you.

6. Don’t stress

This test is a way to see how prepared you are for the SAT. If you stress, you’re not going to do as well as you could have. Freshmen and sophomores even have more chances to take it, so don’t worry yourself too much.

7. Think positively

I think this one is my favorite piece of advice for almost everything, but it works very well here too. You’re only going to do as well as you think you are going to do. If you think that you’re going to do great, chances are you’re going to kill it! So in short, just think you’re going to do well and you will.
