The 2026 Prom Committee, which consists of students that are currently Juniors, meet together twice a week during iPeriod to come up with ideas and decide the theme of the Prom dance. Monday during assembly the students in the committee put together a video to preview their reveal, then announced to the entire student body what the theme is. This years Prom’s theme was announced to be One Thousand and One Arabian Nights.
“Since after Christmas break the Prom Committee has meet twice a week, we have come up with so many different ideas. It was hard to decide one, because everyone had different opinions and new ideas. We wanted to come up with something that everyone would enjoy,” junior Nora Knaak said.
While coming up with an idea that everyone will find interesting and enjoy was hard work with the entire committee brainstorming, the set up props and build of the entire dance are two other components that the committee has to consider when crafting the theme.
“We have a few ideas like props and henna tattoos for inside the dance, but other than that we still have a lot of brainstorming to do and ideas to come up with,” junior Callie Dempsey said. “Many of the moms help out and do a very good job of making sure everything is set up perfectly for all of us.”
Prom will take place on Saturday, April 18, and it is a formal dance only juniors and seniors are invited to. With only upperclassmen being able to attend, it is a dance that attendees look forward to, and this being said, the theme is a huge part of the vibe and dance itself.
“We were able to announce the theme to the student body Monday during chapel, we brainstormed many interesting ideas of how to reveal the theme in a fun way,” said Callie Dempsey. “We decided to make a video or presentation so that everyone could visually see our ideas but also it turned out to be funny, making many people laugh and that’s always good. We also designed Prom shirts that we gave to the seniors as a gift.”
The opinion of the student body is a big factor for coming up with ideas like this for a big event. The reveal Monday was a pretty big hit, earning laughs from the audience and buzz from the reveal trailing throughout the day.
“We figured the theme out about a month before the reveal. It’s a fun theme in my opinion, more of a Middle Eastern feel, and we hope it gets all juniors and seniors to the dance floor having a fun enjoyable time,” junior Jay Watters said.
