Catherine O’Hara who was an actor who was known for her key role in Home Alone, Beetlejuice and Schitt’s Creek, although she played roles in many other movies and shows. Her role as Kate McCallister in Home Alone is her most known role, considering it is one of the most watched Christmas movies in the world and a holiday classic.
Born in Toronto, Canada she was a child of seven. O’ Hara started her career in improvisational comedy, specifically on SCTV, which is a Canadian television show. This was where she became known for her celebrity impersonations and original characters.
As a mentioned earlier, Schitt’s Creek was one of her most famous roles in which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Throughout her career she has won two Primetime Emmy Awards. She also won a Golden Globe and two Actor Awards.
O’Hara also had a career in voice acting, in films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Frankenweenie–two very popular animated movies done by Tim Burton. She and Burton worked on multiple projects together, one mentioned above as another iconic role of hers, playing Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice and then reprising the role in Beetlejuice 2. After her passing, Burton posted with a caption, “Catherine, I love you. This picture shows how much light you gave to all of us. You were a special part of my life and after life.”
Her husband was Bo Welch who is a production designer and has done very successful films like Edward Scissorhands, Men in Black and A Little Princess. He has a handful of Oscar nominations for his contributions to the film design in it. She had two sons named Matthew and Luke Welch. Both of her sons took after her and her husband by pursuing production they often work in set design roles.
An actress already deeply missed, she left a strong legacy full of memorable characters. Her death was unexpected, considering she was recently just casted in the show The Studio, which was released only last year.
