On May 4, the annual Tri-ESP event took place, with the school again being the host for it.
Tri-ESP is a charity event for Extra Special People to give them a taste of sports. “Tri-ESP is a group of people where you go and help people that just need a little bit more help,” junior Meritt Reed said.
There were three events hosted: a 25-meter run, a biking activity, and swimming. “There was this biking session and a running session and also swimming session,” freshman Eli Cheng said. “I was helping in a swimming session in the pool and for kids like to finish a 25 little sprint.”
Tri-ESP also enlists the help of buddies, who would help some of the students in the activities. “I was a buddy, and so I helped this little boy named Sergio, and I did the race with him,” Reed said.
The Tri-ESP this year was successful, and ESP students from other schools were able to participate. However, there were small hiccups at times.
“I heard like this guy when he was like getting onto the podium he accidentally slipped and fell, but it wasn’t really a big incident,” Cheng said.
Tri-ESP is a yearly event and has already been hosted by the school for years. “We will host it probably every year,” Cheng said.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for kids who have a disability to play prove themselves [that] they can do better things,” Cheng said. “It’s like really [to] be nice to others and to gain experience. It will be fun.”
