The athletic program is a significant part of the school. Sports provide students with the opportunity to have fun, work together and show school pride. Darlington Athletics is the fitting name for an Instagram account that helps promote online sports culture. The account posts about game days, scores and athletes.
It often features seniors to show everyone their hard work and dedication to the athletics program. When students see these posts, they feel a burst of happiness and a sense of connectivity, even if they cannot attend the game. The Instagram account helps everyone stay informed about what’s happening in the sports world.
Senior Murray Ellington is the man behind the Darlington Athletics Instagram page. Because of all this hard work, Ellington has received a wave of uprising publicity. By running the Instagram page, he helps show school spirit and celebrates athletes. His posts reach many students, parents and fans, making game days more exciting and athletes feel recognized. This attention shows how one person’s effort on social media can make a big difference for school athletics and bring the community closer.
Senior Felipe Selle is classmates and teammates with Ellington. They play tennis and won a state championship in 2024.
“I love Murray Ellington because he does such a good job on every game day to post and recognize all the players on the team. Murray has also been one of my favorite teammates, and I can’t wait to finish my senior year with him,” Selle said.
In addition to Selle, fellow senior Ruthie Brinson has often been featured on the Darlington Athletics page because she was a captain of the volleyball team.
“Murray Ellington’s pictures and edits have been so good all throughout the year, and I think his Senior Ventures project is good so far, and I am very proud of him and thankful for everything he has done for the volleyball team and all the other sports,” Brinson said.
Librarian Jordan West is in charge of the Senior Ventures Program and, therefore, has overseen Ellington’s development and effort over the past year.
“I am really proud of Murray throughout this year because he has put so much work and determination into this project,” West said. “He has made many students proud of his work, and he is very responsible with everything he does with his project. I like to try to help Murray but he normally replies with ‘I got it, thank you’ or ‘I’m okay, thank you’. It also has been very delightful to work with him because he makes my job easy.”
