The pre-homecoming bonfire was the day before the homecoming football game, and all students were invited to the event by the Student Activities Committee (SAC). The bonfire was held in the Huffman gravel parking lot, and was meant to excite the students for the upcoming big homecoming game against Model High School. Junior Kaigan Lynn and senior Christa Jackson share their opinions on the homecoming bonfire.
“It is my first year going to the bonfire, but the bonfire was very big and very hot.” Lynn said.
Lynn then elaborates on why it is important to attend the bonfire.
“It gets you hyped up for the homecoming game, with all the cheerleaders and football players there. It’s a lot of fun to be there and hang out with all your friends.”
When asked if she has been to a homecoming bonfire before, Jackson says she has. Jackson has been a cheerleader for all four years, and the cheerleaders do a cheer for the students at the fire to show school spirit and showcase their talent. It is used as a pep rally with a twist on it.
“They are always super fun because it gets everyone excited for the homecoming game.” Jackson said. “Usually on the Friday before homecoming, there is not really a chance to host a pep rally or anything, so the bonfire the night before really gets people excited for homecoming.”
