2017 NFL Draft
The NFL draft is an exciting time for young college athletes to get their shot into the National Football League and NFL teams to select exciting new prospects to fill their team needs. There were many surprises in this year’s NFL draft and many fans left dissatisfied or unhappy with their team’s selections.
Their was a lot of buzz on who the Cleveland Browns would select with the number one overall pick in the draft. The Browns went 1-15 this season in the NFL, coming dangerously close to not winning a single game this year. They ending up selecting Miles Garrett, the defensive end from Texas A&M, with the number one pick. This was the pick everyone thought they would make as Garrett is an impressive athlete with 31 QB sacks to his name in college.
The second overall pick was the most interesting of the draft. The Chicago Bears traded with the 49ers to gain the 2nd overall pick and select quarterback Mitchell Trubisky out of UNC. This was a huge surprise considering the Bears hadn’t hinted at any desires in selecting a quarterback in this years draft and having just signed quarterback Mike Glennon to a 3 year 43 million dollar deal.
Other interesting selections including running back Leonard Fournette, who was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the number 4 overall pick. He is an exciting prospect with dazzling speed and a 240 pound frame. The Kansas City Chiefs traded with the Buffalo Bills for the number 10 overall pick, to everyone’s surprise, and selected Patrick Mahomes II, quarterback out of Texas Tech. They picked Mahomes over national champion quarterback Deshaun Watson, who went to the Houston Texans with the number 12 overall pick.
The Atlanta Falcons traded up from the number 31 pick to the number 26 pick to select defensive end Takkarist McKinley from UCLA. The selection of McKinley was intriguing because he walked out on stage to accept his jersey with a picture of his Grandma who he said was his inspiration.
This was an exciting NFL draft this year and NFL teams are now exciting to get new their players to the practice field and see them make an immediate impact on their team this football season.
