John Druckenmiller
John Druckenmiller came to the newsroom on Thursday, April 6, to speak to all of the Darlingtonian’s reporters and editors about his news journey and to possibly motivate them into a career in journalism.
John Druckenmiller is the owner and editor of Hometown Headlines. In addition to the Hometown Headlines, Druckenmiller is also the host of “Hometown Headlines The Radio Edition.” He has been covering media for 34 years and still wants to keep doing so. Druckenmiller had a lot to say about the world of journalism, and it was well received by many students.
“I learned a lot about how the world has been based on technology and how he learned and expanded off of that and made his business better” Darlingtonian reporter Jamila Wood said. “He told his students that fairness was the most important thing to him, and that’s why he thought it to his student so much.”
Druckenmiller has worked for four Georgia newspapers including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Fulton County Daily Report, The Times in Gainesville and The Rome News Tribune. He has also worked at USA Today, Florida Today, The Fresno, Calif., Bee, the Fort Myers, Fla., News-Press and The Ledger, Lakeland, Fla.
The Hometown Headlines owner had a lot of interesting stories to tell about his time in journalism. He told one story about a girl that got an arrow shot into her head.
“I learned that when he was talking about the little girl that got shot in the head with the arrow and they didn’t post it because it could effect other people in the world like her family,” Darlingtonian reporter Zuker Campbell said.
Druckenmiller really inspired all of the reporters and editors of the Newsroom class to make better stories and really opened their eyes to the world of journalism.
