Cross Country wins Rome All-Area Championships
On Oct. 16, both boys’ and girls’ cross country won the title of Rome All-Area Champions at Georgia Highlands.
This is the first time the boys have won in several years; however, this is the fourth time in a row the girls have won Rome’s All-Area Championships.
“It’s a lot of pressure because you don’t want to be the team that screws it up, but I think it’s great that we have something to live up to and, like, push us to get better, so we can win,” freshman Frances Fields said.
Darlington had three girls in the top four which helped them secure their three point victory over Bremen.
“I think everyone was really able to step up because I think it is important to everyone on the team to continue that record,” junior Emily Edwards said.
The boys were in a three-way tie, but all of their top five runners finished in the top twenty to secure their win.
“It was a really cool experience as the anticipation built up as they were calling out the places from fifth place to first,” junior David Hagler said. “The team erupted when they said Darlington came in first place.”
Darlington will host the region meet on Oct. 27.
