Georgi McCauley ’17: Back in the Game
Senior Georgi McCauley has had a major setback with her knee injury, but did not let that stop her.
“My knee injury was an ongoing setback since my freshman year, always holding me back. If it were not being able to play school or club volleyball or being on crutches the first four months of my junior year. Even though I despise my terrible knees, they taught me two life lessons: life may have some bumps along the way, but in the end you will be ok and that crutches suck,” McCauley said.
McCauley, despite her knee injury, has played many sports during her time at Darlington.
“I have played volleyball for four years, three being varsity and one junior varsity. I also picked back up an old sport, playing soccer my sophomore year and plan to play this year also. I have had many struggles with sports due to my knee problems and surgeries, but I am happy and healthy and excited for the rest of senior year sports,” said McCauley.
McCauley’s specialties not only include volleyball and soccer, but rather something that most people don’t know about her.
“One of my favorite hobbies outside of school is dance. I have been dancing since I was five years old and continue to today. I love dance and how it allows you to escape reality,” McCauley said
While at Darlington, McCauley has had a teacher or rather a mentor that has impacted her more than anyone else.
“I would call her more like my favorite mentor. Mrs. Yarborough was my freshman adviser and ever since then she has always looked out for me. She helped me study for exams and finish homework, but also support me through hard times. You could say she has been a “school mom” to me and I appreciate that more than she will ever know,” said McCauley
McCauley has five things in mind for when she graduates.
“Go to college. Get a degree. Get a job. Have a family. Be happy,” said McCauley
McCauley also has already decided what she will major in.
“As of right now, I hope to major in hospitality and management and minor in film. It might change a hundred times before I graduate or might stay the same. Either way I hope to do something I love,” McCauley said
