This school year the student life office changed their check-out program to the new REACH app. The app is used for checking in and out during the school day. Most students leave during free to get food, drinks and or go home. This app makes it possible to leave with just tapping in and out easily.
“It’s a lot easier to put in my leaves for the weekends when I want to go home. I still feel the same about it as the beginning of school. It’s a lot easier than having to go on my computer and putting in a leave. I can just do it on my phone,” sophomore boarding student Frances Garrard said.
Garrard began attending school last year and thinks that the system last year was less convenient. Another border contradicts her opinion by suggesting it’s not easy at all, but she also is new and wasn’t here last year to see the challenges the last system held.
“I don’t think it’s convenient at all because we have to make leaves whenever we want to get out of campus, and it can be tricky to go to the student center every time because we have to make the leave and then wait for it to get accepted and then go to the student center, and then go where you want,” sophomore Zeinab Wade said.
Even though Wade thinks the system is not very good, senior Bella Rogers who was here for all 4 years in high school sees how this system is more convenient. Wade is a dorm student and Rogers is a day student, so that could influence their opinions.
“I like the tap out more, because I don’t have to scroll and find my name, all I have to do is just tap it, and then I can go. Also I don’t have to scroll and switch which grade it’s on,” Rogers said. “In emergency situations it is helpful because teachers can know who was driving and you can call that person if needed and know that that’s who they’re with if you need to get in contact with them.”
Rogers thinks the system is more improved, but junior Nate Kunczewski, who is also a day student, said the old way is easier but this new way is still good.
“I would say this system is not as good because it’s different, you have to do more stuff but, it’s still all right,” Kunczewski said. “Being able to tap in and out saves time if I need to leave in a hurry.”
