Former Arizona State and current New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo was the 105th pick in the 2025 National Football League (NFL) draft. He has become a popular name in sports conversations and fantasy football, a game where players create virtual teams made up of real NFL athletes and score points based on those athletes’ actual game performances, around campus. Students and faculty weigh in on what makes the running back stand out. Whether they are impressed by his highlights or worried about how long he can keep up his high-power play in the NFL, everyone on campus has something to say.
“When I hear the name Cam Skattebo, I think CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, a progressive brain damaging injuries after consistent head injuries) because he is easily one of the most aggressive players in the NFL,” junior Emmett Holcombe said. ” Honestly, I think it’s kind of stupid, but I’m here for it, I love it. But, he’s always leading with his head. He’s going to get himself killed.”
Students who strategically chose Skattebo for their Fantasy Football rosters have been impressed with his production in his rookie season.
“Cam Skattebo embodies everything that a real football player should be. He’s hard-nosed, he runs through tackles, and he puts up 32 points for my fantasy team. So I really, really like Cam Skattebo,” senior Brent Bell said.
Even faculty members are impressed by Cam Skattebo so far this NFL season.
“Intense. I mean, the man gets ready for football games by smashing his head against the wall. He doesn’t seem to have any regard for his physical safety, which I do worry will catch up with him eventually. However, he has actually had a pretty good year so far,” history teacher John Hintermaier said. “He has made the Giants much tougher, aggressive, and competitive, which is good because they were terrible.”
Skattebo and his explosive highlights have become very popular on social media.
“I see content about Skattebo all of the time, probably ten times a day. He’s very popular on social media,” junior Grady Ferguson said.
Students bring up their best memories and stories about Skattebo that have been circulating on the internet.
“One story, when Skattebo was really little. He stole his brother’s pads and would go around the neighborhood and run into telephone poles and trees,” Holcombe said.
Students and faculty love how Skattebo has exploded onto the NFL scene.
“He is the second coming of Gronk; he’s on the CTE track. The chemistry between him and Jaxson Dart is actually unreal. They are just super fun to watch together,” senior Kaigan Lynn said.
Many question how long Skattebo can keep up his caliber of play in the NFL before being seriously injured.
“I think he’s going to get CTE real soon here. I think he’s got about five solid years left in his career. I just wonder how one obtains that much toughness. I think he is the best rookie so far this year,” Bell said.
