Several members of the baseball team have bleached their hair as a superstitious act ahead of their first playoff series. This tradition was originally brought upon the baseball team in 2023, when the team went to the final four with bleached hair. Baseball is a game of many superstitions, where logic gives way to ritual, and every routine could be the key to a championship run. Sophomore Cooper Norris shares the purpose behind bleaching his hair ahead of the first playoff series.
“It is just a team thing, Braxton and I came up with the idea of bleaching because the last time we bleached we made it all the way to the final four,” Norris said. “We just wanted some energy that could help us go on a run this year, and I believe we have the guys who can do it.”
Having energy and momentum is a very important aspect in the game of baseball. Junior Braxton Stegall shares the importance of energy and how bleaching his hair could help give the team a spark.
“I think bleaching our hair is something that could give us a spark and kind of get us more excited to play.” Stegall said. “It has already given us more energy and practice and with the playoff series against G.A.C (Greater Atlanta Christian) coming up, I think we will show up ready to play and show off our hair.”
Norris believes the team is being brought closer together by bleaching their hair. He shares the impact that bleaching his hair had on the team and how it could benefit the team.
“I believe we are already a pretty close team but I think this could bring us closer together.” Norris said. “Just walking through the halls and seeing a bleached brother could really just help us out and become more united because being together as a team is really important. As my best friend Coach Larry would say, ‘We need to stay together guys, we do not need any outside forces tearing us apart, we can do special things this year if we just stay together.’”
Coach Matt Larry emphasizes what he calls “We over me”, which essentially means putting the team before any other person.
“Team chemistry is really important and going blonde just really brings us together,” Stegall said. “I mean we are ready, we are ready to go out there and attack and try and do our best to go on a run and win a lot more games this year.”
