Ellington won his match 6-1; 6-0 against the Cartersville opponent. Lunsford lost her match 3-6; 6-3 and 10-5 in the tiebreaker to determine the match.
Lunsford shares her thought process on how she thinks the girls team did in their match against Cartersville. Lunsford also mentions some of her teammates and gives them a shout out at how they played well.
“I think our team did really well because everybody stayed determined,” Lunsford said. “This includes Sophie Piller (singles two) who also went into a tie breaker, and doubles teams also did well, along with Caroline Knight (singles three).”
Ellington describes in detail his feelings towards his teammate whom he gave the title of most valuable player (MVP) to. Ellington gave the honor to John Courtney who is two singles on the boys team.
“I think that the MVP was probably John Courtney because he clenched the victory. He was under a lot of pressure there but he shined through,” Ellington said. “However, unfortunately he almost lost the first set and that would have been bad, but he pulled it out. I am proud of him and I think that the whole team is proud of him too.”
Ellington blew away his competition with a stunning victory that was not even close. He shares his thoughts on how he thinks he secured the win in his match.
“I played really loose and confident, I was consistent as well,” Ellington said. “I also just felt really good swinging confidently and I was playing with a lot of spin and power.”
Lunsford enlightened us on who she thinks that the most valuable player (MVP) of the girls teams is.
“I think that it was Sophie Piller because she fought all the way to the end with her match,” Lunsford said. “Although she lost I still believe that Sophie played the best she could that day and I think she is a great player. ”
In the end, Ellington added how he thinks his team performed, as individuals in their matches and together as a whole team as well.
“I thought my team performed well and we fought until the end,” Ellington said. “At the end of the day, we got the win. We have some work to do in some parts, but we are looking good.“
