The boys and girls Swim and Dive teams competed in their region championship on Feb. 1. They competed against the other teams in their region in Dalton. In the championship, there are several events and this helps athletes receive more than one chance to qualify for state. Boys and girls went to the region and did very well. The event was originally scheduled to be in Calhoun, but it was switched out of nowhere to Dalton. This is an interesting last-minute adjustment the athletes had to make.
“Changing to going to Dalton was hard because we all thought we were gonna have to go like 30 minutes to Calhoun but then we had to go an hour away instead,” said sophomore and team member Banks Brown. “After we got there we did good even though they decided to change the place for some random reason.”
Brown competed for the boy’s varsity swim and dive at the region championship in Dalton for the second time in his highschool career.
“The region championship is a fun experience where there are a lot more teams than usual, this was cool because we got to go against much more and better teams than our usual small meets,” Brown said.
Sophomore swimmer Josiah Powers, who has swam for also two years, shares his opinion on the atmosphere during the region championship.
“The meet was really interesting and fun to swim at, swimming at Dalton was really cool and we all had a good time being with each other which I think made it a lot more fun.”
The region championship is a way to giveĀ the swim and dive team another chance to qualify themselves and the relay teams for state.
“Swimming at Dalton was awesome because we had two relays qualify for state,” said Powers. “I was on the two relay on teams that qualified. This was the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle, my friends like Will Willerson motivate me to go harder.”
