Sydnee Barndt is a four-year residential student from Eagle River, Alaska. She is also a part of Darlington Soccer Academy. Due to her passion and hard work, Barndt successfully received an offer from Wingate University.
Barndt states that many different aspects go into becoming a successful soccer player.
“A lot of athletes don’t consider their mental well-being,” Barndt said. “Knowing your body and taking risks is important, as are knowing your limits.”
Barndt also faces lots of challenges during practice time. Maintaining motivation throughout the year has been challenging for Barndt.
“I’ve never had an injury like a lot of other athletes. So I’ve been fortunate about that,” Barndt said. “Being in an academy where you train all the time, you have to have some discipline and motivation throughout the year.”
Barndt always searches for ways she can improve her game.
“After the game, I will think about everything I did,” Barndt said, “and how I could have been better.”
Sydnee shares one final piece of advice for people wishing to improve their game.
“Know your body and take those rest days whenever you’re given them,” Barndt said, “but enjoy it.”
