Darlington Track Meet
The track team battled through tough weather conditions during their meet on Tuesday. They faced Cass, Armuchee, Mt.Zion and Pepperell in a crucial midseason meet. The girls took first place, for their first win of the season, while the boys finished second place. The athletes were overall pleased by their performances in the meet.
“The team is struggling with a lot of injuries right now and it wasn’t the best day with the weather,” sophomore JP Deaton said. “All that being said, I think we did pretty well and we were able to compete with the teams.”
The athletes were happy with the fan support, considering the weather.
“Tuesday’s home track meet had a great turn out for the boys and girls,” sophomore Maggie Hawkins said. “I’m so happy that we have such great fans that support us through everything.”
The weather created a difficult challenge for the athletes in the meet.
“It was a challenging meet because of the weather because wind and rain can really impact your performance, especially in the field events,” senior Emily Edwards said. “Everyone pushed though and we did really well as a team.”
The athletes were happy with their team’s effort in the tough meet.
“Considering the terrible weather and the meet almost being canceled, the team worked really hard and everyone gave their best efforts in every event they competed in,” Hawkins said.
Both teams have a lot of confidence going into the rest of the season, with the area meet coming up next month.
“The boys team is ready to get healthy and to win another area championship,” Deaton said.
