Anna Claire Atha Scores 2000th Point in High School Career
On Jan. 21, senior point guard, Anna Claire Atha scored her 2,000 point in her high school basketball career. It was a three pointer that marked the 2000 point for Atha at the end of the second quarter.
She went on to score 15 more in the second half of the game. Atha led the team to a 60-56 win over Christian Heritage. Fans cheered loudly and held up signs reading “AC for 2k” following the team’s win.
“I’m so proud of AC. She has worked so hard and is an amazing basketball player. I was very excited when she hit her 2,000 points in the Christian Heritage game,” said Karoline Hunt, a freshman on the basketball team.
Just before hitting her 2,000 point, she became the all time leading scorer as she passed Terar Stewart after scoring 25 points against Cane Bay High School during the Carolina Invitational on Dec. 29. That put her at 1,791 points.
“Anna Claire is a really good player, and I love playing with her. She’s always positive and such a hard worker and she makes everyone around her better,” said Olivia Adams, a freshman on the basketball team.
Atha has also participated in track and field for the past two years now, but has been playing basketball for the Lady Tigers since the 6th grade. She also played AAU basketball for the Atlanta Cagers for 6 years.
Atha will attend Wofford College on a basketball scholarship starting in the fall of 2017.
“I’m very excited to be going to Wofford. It’s been my dream to play division one basketball, and I’m very blessed that the Lord has provided with me with this opportunity,” Atha said.
