Discover Day was a celebration of arts where students could participate in art-themed activities and celebrations. After these activities, students performed in the cove to close out the Discover Day festivities. The art-themed iPeriods ranged from dances from different cultures to creating Christmas Ornaments. Discover Day, organized by Mily James, president of the arts council, was an amazing opportunity for students to learn about new arts activities and possibly discover a newfound appreciation for the arts. Senior Mily James and sophomores Kaigan Lynn and Ava Ann Woods share about their experiences and roles in the arts council. James tells about her role with the Discover Day.
“I’m the arts council president, so Mrs. Inman helped me plan the whole iPeriod time,” said James. “I found classes and communicated with the teachers and students to see what they wanted to do, I organized the performances, and over-saw the whole day.”
Ava Ann Woods is also on the arts council serving as the visual arts representative, but she is also a singer with the choir and Darlingtones. She shares her thoughts on being involved in the arts celebration.
“I sang with the Darlingtones, Kensie Waller and I sang “Our Song” by Taylor Swift,” said Woods.
James is a very active member in the arts community. She explains why she is so involved with the arts at in her community.
“I love the arts, I’ve done theater since I was about eight,” said James. “I love it, and I just want other people to enjoy it as well.”
Lynn is a leader on the arts council as the representative of the performance arts. He shares what his role is as a leader on the arts council and in Discover Day.
“I oversee all the activities that have to do with the performing arts in art in 3-D,” Lynn said. “We brainstormed ideas and then came up with fun ideas that we could do.”
Woods shares why she loves the arts and why she influences others to get involved.
“I love to learn about the arts,” said Woods. “I also love how it expresses peoples’ creativity through art.”
Lynn shares his motivation for influencing others through his passion for the arts.
“I’m involved with the arts council because I’m really passionate about the arts and performing,” said Lynn. “If I’m a part of the council, I am able to create new opportunities for others to experience the arts.”
