Students picked for the 2024 Homecoming Court share their experiences and excitement for the halftime event on Oct. 18. Homecoming Court is an event at halftime of the homecoming football game where representatives chosen by their class walk the field. Upperclassmen are eligible for royalty like prince, princess, king and queen.
Walking went in order from youngest to oldest. Freshmen and sophomores had 2 representative pairs, juniors had 4 pairs and seniors had 6 pairs. Freshman Whit Watters got to walk first.
“I felt like a leader. It’s an honor to be a part of this freshmen class, and I’m glad to represent them.”
Sophomore Callie Dempsey came next, who had previously been on court her freshman year.
“It felt good, I felt really special,” Dempsey said. “Being on it with my best friend, Molly, was the best part. We’ve been really close since middle school and definitely over the summer.”
When the juniors walked, one of their representatives was Zain Khatib, who won princess.
“I was honestly really surprised, I didn’t expect it, but I felt really honored. It was a really happy moment.”
Senior Atlas Kosedag was picked for the Court, chosen to be prince his junior year and king his senior year.
“It’s exciting to know that I’m appreciated by the people around me, and that I’m accepted by the community at Darlington. It’s a great feeling,” Kosedag said. “It was super exciting. I made eye contact with my dad, and my sister came home from Boston, it was a really sweet moment.”
