On April 8, the first solar eclipse since 2017 occurred. Students gathered between the student center and the Zelle Fine Arts Building to watch the solar eclipse.
“I did it because it was a rare thing; normally this area doesn’t get a lot of eclipses so I thought it would be interesting,” freshman Paul Lyu said.
Students were given special glasses that allowed them to view the eclipse safely.
“It was quite good actually, we were given special goggles to look at it without hurting our eyes,” junior Javin Pandya said, “and it was cool to see it by yourself. It was supposedly rare and I thought it was interesting to view it properly so I went to go watch.”
This year people had mixed opinions on whether the event was significant.
“I thought it was kinda cool, I mean you don’t really get this kinda stuff near here and the last one was a long time ago so I thought it was very cool,” sophomore Kaigan Lynn said.
Not everyone agreed with this, believing the event was overrated.
“Honestly it was kind of overrated, I know there were a lot of people at the viewing thing and it’s rare and all, but I feel like it’s still overrated,” junior Jiahao Luo said.
This year people were able to watch it in comfort; for the most part.
“I thought it was okay, there were a lot of people there trying to film it and it was a bit crowded, I suppose it was kind of intriguing since I’ve never seen one before,” Luo said.
