Starting on Feb. 8, students at Darlington School went on a trip to Chicago for a Model UN conference called MUNUC. This trip took a total of two days and students returned on Feb. 12. Model UN is an event that is used to simulate how the United Nations meetings decide on propositions and resolutions to world problems. The Model UN team consisted of various students across the upper school that are being led by Samuel Clark and Betina Fuentes.
MUNUC was an event held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. This is a very impactful event with its history stretching from 1988 until now. There were over 3000 speakers from all across the US in different schools. The event is separated into several divisions such as DISEC or GA Plenary, with most of them involving one or two delegates or speakers. This was the second Model UN conference that the Model UN team at Darlington went to this year. The first was a conference at Georgia Tech in Atlanta hosted during the fall of 2023.
“It was a really fun meet, I got to meet a lot of new people from different schools and interact with them,” said Anna Nguyen, a participant in the event.
The general consensus on the event was quite positive for the team. However, the work that they had to do was quite intense.
“There were meetings that lasted until 11 p.m. or 11:30 p.m.,” Eli Cheng, another member of the Model Un team said. “We had to get up at 7 a.m. or 8 a.m. for the next day.”
