The robotics teams’ members–who design and engineer robots–shared how they prepared for their competition on December 2nd as they aimed for 1st place in regionals.
“Right now, my team’s coders are in the process of testing robot function,” Freshman Joseph Qiu said, “but I’m fairly confident in our robot.”
In order to prepare for the competition, the younger robotics team conducted rigorous and thorough testing to ensure their robot worked as intended on competition day. Though unforeseen events are bound to happen, members ensured the chance of major malfunction was as low as possible, and their team placed 6th.
“For the upcoming competition, we’re improving upon our robot’s flaws from our last competition,” Sophomore Ash Damen said, “and going through testing.”
Though the older team placed well in their previous competition, they believed they could further improve their robot after assessing their own mistakes. They further built on things they did well on while improving aspects of their robot they found unsatisfactory, rather than becoming complacent after doing well in their previous competition. Thus, they placed well once again–1st place.
“Some advice I have is to go slow at a step-by-step pace,” Damen said, “and delegate jobs to particular roles rather than taking everything on yourself.”
