Josi McKibben ’18: Adjustment

Senior Josi McKibben described her last two years of high school as “different” due to the experiences that have changed her outlook on school and pushed her personal boundaries.

“I kind of never thought that I would be here and it was such a big adjustment coming from a public school. Like, you never really get used to it.”

McKibben accepted the challenges that she faced during her sophomore year but stayed persistent and hard-working.

“My transition was kind of hard because my old school was easier but I expected it [Darlington] to be hard.”

Her relationships with teachers made her appreciate education more and gain a positive outlook of the classroom.

“Mr. Hudson made class fun. I never really enjoyed coming to school for the education part and he made me want to go to class everyday.”

Her accomplishments during her softball career have made special memories for her and gave her a place in the community.

“Once I got on the softball team and started playing that’s when I really found my place. My memorable moments were my junior and senior softball season and making it to the playoffs.”

She took her athletic skills and put her efforts towards another sport that gave her a big challenge.

“I did crew my sophomore year because it made me appreciate the sport that I play. I appreciated crew but it made me appreciate softball more because crew was harder.”

Her social experience has been different than expected due to her courage of getting involved and trying new activities.

“Definitely get involved, because getting involved is where you get your friends from and if you don’t you will not have as good as an experience.”
