The Open House Movie Review
Last month, Netflix released a new original horror movie, The Open House. The story focuses on a newly-widowed woman, Naomi, who is left with very little money after her husband is tragically killed. Naomi’s sister offers up her vacation home, so Naomi and her son, Dylan, agree to temporarily stay in it.
The only issue with the vacation home is that it is for sale, so Naomi and Dylan have to leave during open houses on Sundays. Eventually, creepy things start happening at night after the open houses, such as the hot water turning off by itself and Dylan’s phone ending up in strange places, but the scares don’t go very far beyond that.
Although the movie was well-made, the production quality didn’t make up for the lack of content and plot holes. The movie gives no explanation as to who is doing all of these creepy things in the house, but it also didn’t keep me interested enough to care. A few characters are introduced who could possibly be the perpetrators, but most of them are either uninteresting or end up dying.
Overall, I would give The Open House 2.5/5 stars. Although the suspense and filming quality kept me engaged throughout the movie, there was no twist or element that made the plot original from any other cliche horror movie.
