Senior David Wu  (Neville) dives into the everything sandwich. Other Neville dorm members cheered him on.
Harsh Patel (Summerbell) swallows down a cup of sardines, spam and other gross things. As Patel tried to keep down the cup of sardines, he rolled his eyes back to keep his sanity.

Brighley Powell (Thornwood) refrains from barfing and is able to continue. Powell poured water over the saltine crackers in order to eat faster.

The 11th annual RUMPUS began with Fear Factor and Hunger Games, which consist of eating either something gross or a large quantity of regular food. Each person on the team must finish eating their item before the next person can begin theirs.

Though exciting, Fear Factor is considered to be the most disgusting event to participate in and to watch.

“It felt pretty gross, pretty fantastic and pretty exciting all at the same time,” senior Jacob Fulcher (MSR) said. “It’s a great experience watching all these people eat these gross food that I’m glad I wasn’t a part of it.”

This year’s Fear Factor included a blended Taco Bell value meal, a cup filled with sardines, oysters, anchovies, peaches and olives, and a “Buddy the Elf” noodle sandwich (complete with syrup, chocolate syrup, a chocolate poptart and more).

“It was pretty disgusting and I had never had tuna before and then I ate an oyster, an old olive and peaches,” sophomore Lila Alcott (CPR) said. “The peaches weren’t so bad. I couldn’t really taste it because I took it like a shot. So that was pretty disgusting, but I liked it, I liked the enthusiasm. Now I smell like tuna.”

Hunger Games included an entire sleeve of saltine crackers, a large sandwich with many toppings and two large orange slushies.

“I had to drink that very large supply of coldness and it sucked,” freshman Alex Austin (SMB) said. “I thought the crowd was very encouraging, but also, just watching all my other teammates, I thought I was mid-class in difficulty. The coldness is definitely almost as bad as the taste. I can still feel it; I’m shivering.”

Regester and Neville won, followed by Cooper and Moser with Thornwood and Summerbell bringing up the rear.

“Winning the first event was very exciting and I’m very eager to see what Regester has to bring for the rest of RUMPUS,” senior Morgan Adams (REG) said.

The next event is the basketball games at 6:00 and 7:30 in the Van Es followed by Minute to Win it games and Dodgeball.
