The China Untold

This past summer, junior Sam Ding went to his hometown of Kunming, in the Yunnan providence.

While he was there, he snapped several photos that portray the life of the Zehei Township village.

“This huge difference between the rich and the poor, I think, is what I wanted to know about China, that it’s still a developing country and not everyone here enjoys the same benefit they get from this country,” said Ding.

Ding’s showcase, “The China Untold”, has been displayed in the upstairs portion of the Zelle building since Nov. 7.

“I really respect him for having that experience and capturing those moments,” said senior Sara Berry.

Senior Donna Ren had a very personal connection with the photos.

“I look at the pictures and I can feel that’s my grandpa’s life and reminded of the time that I spent with him,” said Ren.

History teacher Hans Doerr observed and noted the composition and balance of Ding’s showcase.

“I like the kitchen picture; it sort of looks like a still life painting to me,” said Doerr.
