The RUMPUS theme reveal is a huge and popular part of Rumpus. These themes are confidential and it is crucial that they are kept a secret until the reveal. In order to have a good theme reveal, the house must have a good execution when introducing it and it must be an interesting theme. Juniors and head day prefects Murray Ellington (Moser) and Sophie Piller (Regester) share what makes a good theme reveal.
Piller shares how she chose her theme and the story behind Reg Productions.
“We wanted to choose a theme that no one had done before,” Piller said. “We wanted to come up with a theme that had a storyline behind it.”
Ellington shares why Moser chose their theme and what makes a good RUMPUS theme.
“We wanted to do something that is interesting and that had never been done before,” Ellington said. “We want our theme to tell a story, which is something that Moser usually does.”
Execution is an important part of the theme reveal. Students must be able to understand and be excited about their theme. Ellington shares why execution is important.
“If you execute badly, it will definitely show,” Ellington said. “You want people to understand your theme and if you execute well, it will look good for your house and get people excited for it.”
Piller gives her thoughts on why execution is important to her and her house.
“It is important to execute introducing the theme correctly because a lot of times in the past, theme reveals have gone badly and it made people confused about what their theme was,” Piller said. “It is really important to make sure your theme is clear and what the concept behind it is.”
Piller also shares what Regester did to get their students excited for RUMPUS and to create good chemistry between students.
“In our house we try to build our chemistry between day and dorm students,” Piller said. “Leading up to RUMPUS we had some events like pickleball and socials with Moser to make everyone more comfortable with each other.”
Piller says that she thinks everyone will be there for each other and their house to have a good time.
Getting students excited about RUMPUS is a major part of building confidence for the houses. The theme reveal is a big part of this. Ellington shares on how he plans to get Moser excited about RUMPUS.
“Getting a lot of students involved in a lot of different events. I think our theme got people excited so that is an easy way to get students excited.”
