There are a lot of great people at the upper school, but who are the all around Good Samaritans? Who is the number one Good Samaritan? Weekly updates will come from sophomore Matthew Sanker and senior Mia Curlee as they debate who wins the title. Both writers made a mock draft where they drafted five students in the upper school grades who were qualified for the title. Students that were picked have high service hours, are involved in school activities and leadership, and are all around known as a good person.
In this article, Sanker and Curlee will drop their number five pick and justify their answers.
Mia:
1. Charlie Patel
My first pick is Charlie Patel. Patel is a Moser house leader, and varsity soccer player, and runs the student leadership committee as his Senior Ventures project. Patel is a DarBaby and was also a Senior Homecoming Court Representative. He is also a Tiger Tutor and helps his peers maintain their grades. Patel is widely known around school as he is a big personality, and isn’t scared of other’s opinions. He is very in touch with “brain rot” and makes his other students laugh.
2. Charlie Jackson
My second pick is Charlie Jackson. Jackson is a junior who is a varsity baseball player and a varsity football athletic trainer. Jackson was also picked for Junior Homecoming Court. Jackson came from St. Mary’s his freshman year and is known around the school as an extremely likable guy, well-known for being a dedicated student and all-around nice guy.
3. Toby Burns
3. My third pick is Toby Burns. Toby is a Neville leader, Y-cabinet member, and Student Activities Committee. Burns was also picked for Junior Homecoming Court this past fall. Burns is a likable guy who is super involved around Darlington, giving him this podium spot. He is constantly involved when it comes to his house and is always outgoing.
4. Linda Pan
My fourth pick is senior Linda Pan. Pan is a Cooper House Head Dorm Prefect and a member of the Student Activities Committee. She volunteers as a Tiger Tutor, tutoring fellow students. Linda is involved heavily around school, as the Prefect duties keep her involved with the day and dorm sides of Cooper’s activities. Pan maintains very high grades which is evident through her ability to tutor fellow students and help them with their studies.
5. Ruthie Brinson
With my number five pick, I’m taking junior Ruthie Brinson. Some of Ruthie’s attribute’s include Thornwood Leader and varsity volleyball player and team captain. Brinson is well known and well liked around school, which is proven by her many friends, along with her being selected as a Junior Homecoming Court Representative this fall. Brinson also volunteers with Extra Special People (ESP) and during the summer, was in training for a camp counselor job.
Matthew:
1. Atlas Kosedag
My number one pick is Atlas Kosedag. He is a day student who is our student council president this year. He is very involved in the activities in Rome and Darlington. Kosedag works for esp in the summertime. He is a Neville leader. He also is a varsity cross-country runner. Kosedog is involved in many things around the school and is very likable by many. Kosedog also runs the student leadership committee alongside Charlie Patel. He also won Homecoming King this year.
2. Whit Molnar
My second pick is senior Whit Molnar. Whit Molnar has an annual lemonade stand where he raises money for the open-door home. He started this lemonade stand many years ago. This lemonade stand has grown and is a big tradition in Rome. A lot of people are aware of this lemonade stand around Rome.
3. Yonah Banda
3.) My third pick is sophomore Yonah Banda, a Moser boarding student. He plays basketball and runs track and field. Yonah was born in Pittsburgh and has impacted the school since he got here his freshman year. Yonah is an outstanding student in the classroom and is involved in many clubs and leadership positions around the school.
4. Sophie Piller
My fourth pick is junior Sophie Piller. She is the Regester Day head prefect. She also plays varsity volleyball and has helped lead the team. Sophie is very well-known around the school. She was on the 2024 Homecoming Court. She also participates on the Darlington tennis team.
5. Brent Bell
Junior Brent Bell is the son of headmaster Brent Bell and is very involved in the school. Brent is the day head prefect for Neville house. He also volunteers at ESP in the summertime and was recently accepted into the National Honor Society. Bell has participated in three varsity basketball seasons and played two years of varsity lacrosse. He also is held to high academic standards and is involved in the school’s activities.
