Five Indie Movies
Have you ever sat in bed sick or bored, tired of your Netflix binge show or simply wanting to have nothing to do with it? Well, here are five indie that can be found on Netflix or Amazon to fill that emptiness you’ve been feeling since school has started back.
- “What If” – Amazon
“What If“, a moving starring Daniel Radcliffe as Wallace, Zoe Kazan as Chantry, Megan Park as Dalia, Adam Driver as Allen, Mackenzie Davis as Nicole, and Rafe Spall as Ben. The movie opens (and is set) in New York City where, after one year, Wallace sits on a roof and decides to move on from his past relationship. Wallace has been very cynical of love due a series of bad relationships, so his dear friend and ex college roommate, Allen, throws a party where he meets Chantry. Chantry and Wallace instantly connect, but decide to remain friends. Will they become something or will Chantry’s boyfriend of five years disrupt them?
- “One Day” – Netflix
“One Day“ is a cute movie filled with wit, loss, friendship and love. England is the setting of the movie, so if you don’t care for the plot line, at least the accents are cute! Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess, Rafe Spall, Patricia Clarkson, and Romola Garai star in the movie. Dexter, played by Jim Sturgess, becomes a narcissistic tv personnel whose fame clearly went to his head while also dealing with family troubles. While Dexter goes charming all the women with his wealth and looks, Emma, played Anne Hathaway, stands aside watching it all as she falls for Dexter. Talk about a jaw-dropping it end, it will blow your mind!
- “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” – Amazon
Craig, a suicidal teen, checks himself into mental hospital figuring he will only be there for the night. The doctors admit him for a week instead, Craig wants to keep his location hidden from his friends. The mental department for teens is being renovated, so all of the teens are mixed in with adults. Craig quickly makes friends with Bobby who helps show Craig around and teach how to impress the ladies. There is a love triangle that Craig somehow manages to get himself into, which happens to be one of the many reasons for the title, “It’s Kind of a Funny Story.” The movie stars Keir Gilchrist, Emma Roberts and Zach Galifianakis. This movie is also an amazing book, which can be found at your local Barnes and Noble.
- “Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List” – Netflix
“Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List“ is a fun, relatable movie about friendship set in New York City starring Victoria Justice and Pierson Fode. Naomi and Ely have been friends since childhood, but their relationship starts to shake when family affairs set in and a new boy comes into the picture.
- “Lovely Bones” – Netflix
“Lovely Bones,” a book adapted into a movie, tells a story of Susie Salmon who was brutally murdered by her serial killer neighbor Mr. Harvey. The Salmons have no idea what happened to Susie aside from the fact that she did not return home from school that one fatal day. Susie is stuck between Heaven and Earth watching over, and aiding when she can, her loved ones. Susie remains in the in-between unable to move on to her afterlife for more than one reason.
