Homecoming is one of the biggest weekends of the year, and with this comes the dance, where the location has been up for debate and changing. Last year, homecoming was held in the McCallie-Kennedy Student Center (The MacK), and this year it is going back to the Yankee Wrestling Room, where it was hosted two years ago and was originally where it was held normally. Returning students voiced their opinion on the change.
“I enjoyed it even though I was not there as long as others, but I thought it was good and it was fun,” sophomore boarding student Zoe Caldwell said. “The only exception was that everybody was dancing in a group, so it eventually did get really hot, and from my experience, the wrestling room is also hot, so I’m just hoping that we get air conditioning in the wrestling room and that it’s not as hot. Also, I feel like the student center was small but designed well, and the wrestling room is bigger, but there are no sections to it. I feel like it’ll still be fun.”
Caldwell came last year as a freshman, but she has been in the wrestling room before and knows what it looks like and what the setup of it is. Another student, who is in The MacK, has a different approach to the dance, but still shares the same idea that the wrestling room will be a good change.
“Most students are in the student center all the time at school and it just felt like you’re in a normal school day, it just felt like school,” sophomore Wilson Lucas said. “I feel like being in the wrestling room would be a good change of scenery, because you’re not often in the wrestling room, also there will be more parking and it’s a bigger space so you can dance more.”
Another day student who also experienced the dance being in The MacK last year has a similar view as Lucas. That The wrestling room will be better for parking because the Huffman is bigger and the whole space will be a good change.
“I really didn’t like The MacK because it’s really small, but I like the wrestling room because there is more room,” sophomore Zaiden Simpson said. “And there is more space in there to move around and you won’t be crowded, also the parking lot is way bigger at the Huffman then The MacK parking lot.”
